HandsOn Texarkana, The Volunteer Center is about service to community through volunteerism.  As a young child we were all asked what we wanted to be when we grew up.  Perhaps we answered firefighter, police officer, athlete, teacher, doctor, astronaut or even president.  Because in our young minds, these were the heroes.  It was the actions they undertook everyday which gave them that status and made us want to be like them; they are still our heroes today.  However, you don't have to walk into a burning building or wear a badge to rescue someone.  You don't have to go to medical school to help someone feel better, make a touchdown to score points with someone or even walk on the moon to help change the earth. To be someone's hero all you need to do is volunteer.  That's all!  Volunteer yourself, your time, your talents - a little goes a long way, and a lot goes wherever you want it to.  

We are fortunate to live in a time of great awakening... we have all needed help at one time or another and we know what it means to give back to our community, this place we call home.  We are proud, united and we care about others.  These are the qualities that cause a change and these are the qualities that will sustain us and see us through tough times.
